Hadrian's Wall

Chesters was a Roman cavalry fort. The ruins of several buildings can be seen, including the bath house shown here.

Cragside

Cragside House
Cragside was built by the first Lord Armstrong who was a great inventor. In 1880, he used hydroelectric power to make this the first house to be lit by electricity.

Belsay Hall

Belsay Hall was built by Sir Charles Monck who was inspired by the Classical architecture he'd seen on the Grand Tour.
